State law requires people aged 17 and younger who want a driver\\’s license to take a public or private school driver-training class that has at least 30 hours of classroom instruction, at least 6 hours driving, and 1+ hours of in-vehicle driving observation — along with passing the knowledge and skills test required by Department of Licensing (DOL). Individuals 18 and older can just take the knowledge and basic driving skills test.
