Motor Vehicle Fuel Prices
Issue briefTaxes & Fees Transportation
Fuel prices continue to be higher than the national average and more than $4 per gallon. Washington has been trending third highest price in the nation behind Hawaii and California, and third highest gas tax behind Pennsylvania and California. In March 2022, higher prices were blamed on the Russia-Ukraine war and market forces. However, Washington\’s fuel prices are more than $1 higher than the national average — so it\’s not the war. Some say that oil companies are just price gouging consumers. It is convenient to ignore the cumulative impacts of government action.
