House Republicans: Real solutions

During the 2021 legislative session, House Republicans did more than fight harmful legislation being pushed through the Legislature by the majority party — we offered real solutions to problems being faced by Washingtonians.

House Republicans introduced the REAL Recovery for Washington Act, which proposed strategic COVID-19 relief before House Democrats introduced and passed a much a smaller package, and we produced an operating budget framework months before Democrats rolled out their spending plan. House Republicans put forth their Open Safe, Open Now plan before Gov. Jay Inslee defined the phases necessary to reopen from pandemic restrictions, and we proposed a package of bills addressing the state Supreme Court’s decision striking down Washington’s drug possession law well before the Legislature passed a quick fix in the session’s final days.

By initiating the debate on these issues, House Republicans influenced the dialogue, held the governor’s office and state agencies accountable, and got some of their provisions — like the Working Families Tax Credit — included in bills that became law.
