Dear Friends and Neighbors,

The air is getting cooler, the Seahawks are winning football games and Gonzaga University’s basketball teams are getting ready to practice soon. It must be fall.

Your time is important. Below is a brief update on our state’s economy, my upcoming town halls and two recent articles that you might find interesting. As always, I welcome your feedback.

Economic Minute:

In its September forecast, the state Economic and Revenue Forecast Council reported another increase of revenue and job growth in our state. The U.S. unemployment rate is 7.3 percent – down slightly from the July rate of 7.4 percent. In the two months since the June forecast was adopted, our state economy added 10,900 jobs. The report also said that total revenue collections for the 2011-13 budget cycle was $30.67 billion – $24 million more than forecasted in June. You can find more information here.

Community Minute:

Last week, Spokane’s Catholic House of Charities hosted a town hall for me at their downtown homeless shelter. The Spokesman-Review covered the meeting in an article posted here.

I will be holding two town halls this month. The first one will be on October 9 with Darrin Duty of Generation Alive, focusing on human trafficking issues in our state. The second one will be on October 26 with Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich. Both meetings will be held at the Service Station. Community attendance is encouraged and greatly appreciated – so please stay tuned for more details!

Christianity Today:

My interview with Christianity Today was published this past week. In the article, which you can find here, I discussed my decision to run for office and how my experiences and beliefs have shaped my time in the state Legislature. Opportunities such as this remind me of what an absolute honor it is to be able to serve Eastern Washington in the 6th District! I am constantly humbled and blessed by my position and love every minute of service. Thank you Christianity Today for giving me the opportunity to share my story!

Final Note:

Please consider donating clothing this winter to your local churches and shelters so our vulnerable community can keep warm during the coming season. You never know how large a difference a small donation can make.

Sincerely,

Kevin Parker
