Rep. Mike Hope chosen for House Heath Care and Wellness Committee
OLYMPIA – Rep. Mike Hope, (R-Lake Stevens), was recently chosen as assistant ranking Republican on the House Heath Care and Wellness Committee. This is a new role for Hope, a veteran police officer, but one
that fits with his education and experience.
that fits with his education and experience. Hope is a nationally certified personal trainer (NPTI-CPT) and former gym owner. He’s also certified as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) and holds a Masters in Policy Studies from the University of Washington, Bothell. And, he’s a self-admitted fitness fanatic.
“Anyone who knows me knows how dedicated I am to keeping fit. I’m excited to bring that perspective to the committee. I plan to focus on preventative health care measures. We all know that the more we do now to stay healthy, the more we save on medical costs in the long run. The same principle can be applied to the state,” Hope said.
Hope’s assignment to the committee comes after state legislative leadership reorganized several committees in November. He will also serve on the Judiciary Committee and will remain a member of the Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee.
“I’m thrilled to continue in the policymaking arena for public safety. These committees tackle issue areas where I have more than fourteen years of experience. As a law enforcement officer, it’s particularly gratifying to have a voice in the creation of laws we use to protect Washington citizens,” Hope said.
The 2013 session starts January 14. Hope can be reached at his Olympia office by calling (360) 786-7892 or via e-mail at Mike.Hope@leg.wa.gov.
