Despite the unprecedented fiscal challenges facing Washington state, I maintain there are three key objectives we must always keep top of mind in order to restore the public’s trust in government and restructure government to match revenue:

• Enable the aggressive creation of globally-competitive private-sector jobs to support families and communities in our state;
• Manage and invest tax dollars in a responsible accountable manner to make sure that our state government lives within its taxpayers means; and, 
• Create a world-class K-12 and higher education system that provides our next generation the learning opportunities and skills to individually prosper and not be dependent on others.

If we set the bar high and move beyond business-as-usual special interest politics, the Legislature will be an effective instrument for citizens -- many of whom have lost confidence in government’s ability to address critical issues facing families and employers.
