Rep. Joe Schmick was first appointed to his House seat in Nov. 2007 and is now serving his second term as a member of the 9th District legislative team, representing Asotin, Garfield, Franklin, Adams, Whitman and south Spokane counties.
A second-generation farmer and small-business owner, Joe and his wife, Kim, reside in Colfax, Whitman County.
Joe earned a degree in Accounting (with a minor in Economics) from Eastern Washington University. He is also a graduate of the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Education Foundation.
Schmick has an extensive background in agriculture, including leadership roles in the Washington State Farm Bureau, the Whitman County Farm Bureau, American Farm Bureau Grain Quality Committee, Washington Barley Commission, and the National Barley Improvement Committee. He also served as a member of the Whitman County Wetlands Committee and Whitman County Natural Resource Advisory Committee.
Joe was a Little League coach for nine years, and he and his wife are active members of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Pullman.

The 2013 regular session adjourned April 28. A special session began May 13 - budget writers and caucus leadership are negotiating an agreement before other members are called back to Olympia to vote on a final budget.
